The Role of Women in Islam: 20th Century
1920s: first feminist association in Egypt. The members accompanied the Egyptian leader to Britain to ask for Egyptian independence. When they came back, a great crowd of Egyptian women was waiting for them.
Progressively, women were acquiring an important role, and some of them were able to show their face without a veil: the EDUCATION gave them power and permitted them to reach another social level, despite the national problems that represented an obstacle to women’s emancipation. In fact, women were deeply engaged in political fights for national independence rather than for their emancipation.
