Denise Agiman

Denise Agiman est née à Milan (Italie) et réside à Montréal depuis 1985. Après le diplôme en arts et sciences (UdeM, 1994), elle a terminé une Maîtrise en art dramatique (UQAM, 1996) et un Ph.D. (Doctorat en études et pratiques des arts, UQAM, 2006). Elle a publié divers articles sur des revues spécialisées en (Theatre Canada Research, Hystrio, Annuaire Théâtral), ainsi que deux essais pour les maisons d’édition Fides et Rodopi. Depuis 1995, elle enseigne l’histoire et l’interprétation théâtrale et elle a été invitée comme conférencière et lecturer en Europe, en Amérique du Sud et du Nord pour parler de questions interculturelles relièes aux arts. En 1997 elle a gagné le prestigieux prix de la FIRT (Fédération Internationale de la Recherche Théâtrale) pour ses recherches sur les relations entre les cultures au théâtre et a obtenu des bourses et mentions d’excellence par le Canada Arts Council, le Ministère des Affaires Étrangères d’Italie et le Ministère des Relations Internationales du Québec.
Parallèlement à la profession d’enseignante et de chercheur universitaire, Denise Agiman exerce une intense activité artistique depuis 20 ans. Cofondatrice, directrice artistique, metteure en scène et actrice de la Troupe Tealtro, elle a dirigé plus que 30 spectacles de pièces de Molière, Machiavelli, Dario Fo, Shakespeare, Pinter, Gogol, Tremblay, Ronfard, Daniel Danis, Kundera, Goldoni, Pirandello, etc.. Après un longue enquête sur la question de la violence conjugale dans les communautés culturelles de Montréal, elle a écrit une pièce « La bella figura » ( Sauver les apparences) qui lui a valu la mention d’excellence du Prix Littéraire La Nereide (Italie, 2000). Ce même spectacle a été, par la suite, tourné pour la télévision en italien et en français. Elle a travaillé à la télévision CFCF 12 et CABLE 24 comme directrice de la programmation, assistante à la production, journaliste et réalisatrice et, depuis 1991, elle est réalisatrice et animatrice d’une émission hebdomadaire sur les ondes de CFMB 1280- Radio Internationale de Montréal.
Depuis 2009, elle effectue une spécialisation ultérieure en art-therapie à la Concordia Unversity. Elle s’est engagée, notamment, à utliser la thérapie psycologique par la voie des arts et du théâtre (drama–therapy). dans un but de soutient et d’aide d’enfants malades et défavorisés.

Denise Agiman’s Ph.D. dissertation (2005) was about “The Intercultural Theatre Approach”. She published esays intwo books and articles about intercultural relations in arts and theatre event on Theatre Canada Research, Hystrio, Annuaire Théâtral. She teaches theatre theories and practices since 1995. In 1997 she won the I.F.T.R. Scholar’s Prize for her researches on intercultural relations in theatre and she also received awards from the Canada Arts Council, the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry, and the International Relations Quebec Ministry. In addition to scholar’s research, she is strongly involved in professional theatre since 20 years. Co-founder, actress and artistic director of the theatrical company Tealtro/Theother, she directed more than 30 plays by Fo, Shakespeare, Molière, Gogol, Pinter, Machiavelli, Kundera, Goldoni, Pirandello, etc. She also wrote a play “To keep up appearances” which has been shot for television and received the mention for the Italy Literary National Award “La Nereide” . Involved also, in the media, she worked as host, and programming director at CFCF12 for an Italian weekly TV show. Since 1991, she is the producer, journalist and hosts of a weekly cultural show at the International Radio of Montreal.
Last but not the least, in 2009, she enrolled in the Arts Therapies program at Concordia University. She is presently committed in helping children and teenagers with health and social development problems through the use of therapeutic theatre and drama.
