The Role of Women in Islam: Women Activism
- SECULAR feminism.
- ISLAMIC feminism.
- Activism within ISLAMIST MOVEMENTS:
1. The first movement is very similar to the movements of the American society, it was already there by the end of XIX century (e.g. in Egypt).
2. The second movement is at a different level: many of the women that belong to this group do not call themselves feminists even if their fights are entirely feminists. They do not agree with the American and British movements that created the term and the movement. They claim for the women many rights. By 1980s and 1990s many women have started reading and re-interpreting the Qur’an in order to have a more female interpretation in order to have a reading that could legitimate their rights.
3. The third movement struggles in order to have the family rights protected
